Our Walkie-Talkie Not Missing - FCT Police Command

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed a report that some personnel of the command forgot a walkie-talkie in the car of a taxi driver.

Naija News reports that a video from Brekete Family radio was trending on social media, particularly on X.

In the video, the founder of Brekete Family Radio, Ahmed Isa, narrated that some policemen demanding ₦2000 from a taxi driver forgot the walkie-talkie in the driver’s taxi.

According to Isa, the driver paid the policemen ₦1000 after much appeal. He alleged that the policemen stopped the driver because of one of his car’s tires.

However, reacting on Tuesday, the FCT Police Command Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, dismissed the video from Brekete Family radio.

Adeh said no walkie-talkie of the command is missing.

She added that the walkie-talkie Ahmed Isa talked about could be one of the three which got missing in 2023.

On her X handle, SP Adeh wrote, “The FCT command has been inundated with calls regarding a viral video claiming that officers attempted to extort a motorist and left a walkie-talkie in his vehicle.

“While we take such allegations seriously, we urge the public to verify facts before making accusations.

“The program anchor should have contacted the police for clarification instead of spreading unverified claims.

“Notably, the walkie-talkie may relate to three devices reported missing last year in Gwagwalada.

“Our Communications Department confirms that all walkie-talkies in use in the FCT are accounted for, with no recent reports of missing devices.”
