The PUNCH: The Peoples Democratic Party kicked against the result of Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State, which ushered in the All Progressives Congress candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo as the new governor of the state. Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, who is the Chairman, Edo State Governorship Election National Campaign Council, on Sunday, stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission should be held accountable for violating the Electoral Act.

Vanguard: AT exactly 9.28 pm, yesterday, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was declared the winner of the Edo State 2024 governorship election, sparking celebration in the state. He polled 291,667 votes to beat his closest marker, Dr Asue Ighodalo, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 247,655 votes. Okpebholo was better with 44,012 votes and emerged victorious in Edo’s keenest governorship poll ever.

ThisDay: The political machine of All Progressives Congress (APC), at the weekend, overwhelmed Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State in the September 21 governorship election, and returned the party’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo, as the new governor of the state. According to the results declared Sunday night by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Okpebholo scored 291, 667 votes and won in 11 local government areas, to beat his main rival, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 247, 274 votes and won in seven local government areas.

The Nation: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security and law enforcement agencies to scale up efforts at cracking down on individuals or organisations involved in cybercrime and transnational car theft. A statement yesterday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Information on Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President also sent a strong message to the global community, affirming that Nigeria would not be a haven for illicit wealth from foreign countries.

Daily Trust: Libya continues to offer the cheapest petrol in Africa, with the price of octane-95 gasoline (petrol) standing at 0.15 Libyan Dinar per litre, equivalent to approximately $0.032 or N52 as of September 16, 2024. This is according to a report by Global Petrol Prices, a platform that tracks retail petrol prices across various countries.
