Gov Yusuf Bars 14 Journalists From Covering Events At Kano Govt House

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to conducting the local government elections scheduled for October 26, 2024, despite a Federal High Court judgment that voided the poll.

The court had invalidated the election process on the grounds that card-carrying members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) were serving as executive officers of the election commission.

Governor Yusuf made this declaration while presenting NNPP flags to the party’s 44 chairmanship and councilorship candidates at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium on Thursday evening.

He emphasized that the state would not tolerate any disruptions to the peace currently enjoyed by its citizens.

“At this moment, the state will not allow anybody to destabilize the existing peace being enjoyed by the citizenry,” Yusuf stated, asserting that both the state government and the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission possess all the constitutional backing needed to proceed with the elections.

The governor disclosed that all legal and procedural requirements had been met, “We have satisfied all the conditions laid down by the law and have completed all necessary preparations for the conduct of the elections on Saturday. As such, the polls must take place as planned.”

Yusuf also mentioned concerns about potential efforts to disrupt the election process, vowing that such attempts would be thwarted.

“We are aware of plans by enemies of the state to truncate this election, but by the grace of Allah, they will not succeed; the elections will be conducted peacefully and credibly,” he added.

Highlighting the readiness of the state government to implement the election results, he encouraged NNPP members to actively participate and prepare for the upcoming elections, praising them as true supporters of the party.

He expressed confidence that the NNPP would secure all 44 chairmanships as well as the 484 councillor seats, citing the substantial support from the populace.

Dr. Audu Ajuji, the Acting National Chairman of NNPP, shared the governor’s optimism about the peaceful conduct of the elections and the party’s prospects of winning all elective positions.

Similarly, the state NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, lauded the large turnout of supporters at the flag presentation event, describing it as a testament to the party’s strong grassroots presence.
