Parents of youths arrested during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests have staged a protest at the Kano State House of Assembly, urgently calling for justice and the swift release of their detained children.

Representing the parents, Mallam Nura Ahmad revealed that approximately 70 young protesters had been arrested and transferred to Abuja, where they are reportedly enduring severe conditions.

Naija News reports that the #EndBadGovernance protests, which took place between August 1 and August 10 across Nigeria, voiced public frustration with economic challenges and hardships under President Bola Tinubu‘s administration.

Expressing his concern, Ahmad described the inhumane conditions reportedly faced by the detainees, stating that they have been denied basic hygiene and allowed only one meal a day since their detention.

The parents’ efforts to secure bail for their children have reportedly met with numerous obstacles, leaving them increasingly frustrated and desperate for progress.

Another major concern raised by the parents is the lack of access to legal representation for the detainees.

According to Fatima Yusuf Umar, one of the affected mothers, her son recounted harrowing details during their last conversation, sharing that he was struggling to see clearly due to mistreatment he had endured.

Addressing the parents, the Majority Leader of the Kano State Assembly assured them that the House would intervene to expedite bail for the detainees.

He also urged the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to step in, advocating for the detainees to be granted bail and for their rights to be respected.
