Former coach of the Flying Eagles, Fatai Amoo, has revealed the challenges facing the Super Eagles under interim manager, Augustine Eguavoen.

Fatai Amoo believes that the primary issue with the Super Eagles lies in the midfield, particularly in terms of creativity.

He highlighted the struggles of Victor Boniface during the recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, attributing his difficulties to the lack of a creative playmaker in the team.

Amoo emphasized the need for a player in the mold of Jay-Jay Okocha, known for his exceptional creativity.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of having players with strong dribbling abilities, such as Chidera Ejuke, in positions that would enhance the team’s overall performance.

“Our defense has some stability, but our biggest problem is the midfield in terms of creativity,” Amoo told Brila FM.

“People will keep asking for another Jay-Jay Okocha because that is what we miss now. We might need a Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, or Martin Ødegaard type of player to solve our midfield problem.”

He added, “When you have players who can destroy defenders with dribbling abilities, the likes of Ejuke [Chidera] if you could get them in other positions, it will improve the team.

“Boniface who couldn’t operate [against Libya]. How many opportunities were created for him? How many through passes were played in his path?”
