Ogun Amotekun Explains Why They Shot At Young Man In Their Custody

The Ondo State chapter of the South-West Security Network Agency, also referred to as Amotekun Corps has apprehended two individuals suspected of leading a kidnapping syndicate in the state.

The suspects were reportedly caught after they took four individuals hostage while travelling on the feared Owo/Ose highway.

While parading the suspects at the corps’ main office in Akure, the state’s capital, the Ondo Amotekun commander, Adetunji Adeleye, shared that he was the one who coordinated the operation in collaboration with some local hunters to capture the accused kidnappers and free the victims.

Adeleye stated that the accused had been causing fear among farmers and travellers using the Elegbeka/Ifon road.

He also mentioned that the accused had confirmed they had received a ransom of ₦1.2 million from some of the victims in August.

He further explained that the accused fought back against the operatives of Amotekun, leading to a shootout before they were subdued.

“A day before the rescue, there was a reported kidnapping along a well-known route. Our team swiftly mobilised, and in collaboration with local hunters.

“We combed the forest where the victims were believed to be held. By the end of the day, we successfully rescued four people.

“What made this operation particularly significant was the identification of two of the arrested suspects. These are no longer suspected kidnappers—they are confirmed kidnappers,”
Adeleye noted.

The Amotekun boss identified the suspects as the same individuals responsible for previous abductions in the area, stressing that “these criminals had been arrested before but somehow managed to return to the same locality. Now, we have them again.”
